Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
These 2023 Lenten Devotionals provide an opportunity to explore scripture and each day’s respective writer’s reflection on that particular scripture. You are invited to fully participate on this journey by reading the selected daily scripture, praying, and reflecting on both the scripture and the message that the devotional writer has shared.
All of the devotions here are written by laity from throughout the West Virginia Conference of The United Methodist Church. They offer a glimpse of their personal discipleship journey so that we all might strengthen our spiritual walk and grow in our own discipleship.
I am grateful for each writer and reader. If you would like to offer a note of appreciation or share about a similar experience, you can now send responses to wvumcdevotional@wvumc.org the lay writer will receive your comment. Won’t you join me in thanking the writers for their time and faithfulness?
We wish you a meaningful Lenten season complete with prayer, fasting, repentance, and preparation. Please feel free to use this devotional in individual or group settings, and to share with family, friends, Sunday School classes, book study groups, your church family, etc.
May you be blessed with a truly transformative Lenten season!
Kristi Wilkerson
Conference Lay Leader

With deepest appreciation, I extend my personal thanks to the writers of the 2023 Lenten devotionals. Your words have been truly inspiring and thought-provoking.
I am grateful for Kim Matthews, Pam Braden, Deborah Coble, Abbi Blosser, and Cheryl Phillips, and their work and commitment to this project which would not be possible without them.
I appreciate Karen Thaxton and other Conference staff who also assist with the preparation of this devotional booklet.
Thanks to the members of the Conference Lay Ministry Team and District Superintendents who provided names of potential writers, and for Bishop Sandra Steiner Ball for always enthusiastically supporting this project throughout each Lenten season.
And, to the readers, thank you for engaging in this devotional, giving of your time, praying, and sharing your stories and reflections.
May we all continue to celebrate the joy of Easter and our Risen Lord throughout the coming days!
Kristi Wilkerson
Conference Lay Leader
