Portico is the name of our online learning platform. It is free for all pastors and laity in the West Virginia Conference. If you are not a registered learner yet, we invite you to join us by visiting: https://www.wvumc.org/portico/ and signing up today.
Here are some fun facts about Portico:
- We are able to share our platform with other Conferences around the country. Currently, Susquehanna, Western PA, East Ohio, Great Plains, Missouri, Central Texas, Cal-Nevada, and Desert Southwest. The connection at work!
- As of now there are over 3,600 learners using Portico.
- Over 1,900 of them in the West Virginia Conference!
- About 1,400 (or 75%) of our learners in WV are laity
- The Northern district has the largest number of learners at 342
- The largest age group on Portico is 56 and above at 61%
- Over 62% of our learners have completed at least two courses
- The first course posted was “Church Life Cycles” on October 7th, 2020
- The most recent course posted is “Church Planting in West Virginia UMC” on March 6th, 2024
- Six people in our conference have each completed over 100 courses! (congratulations to: Paul White, Georgeanne Leake, Edward Clemons Jr, Charles May, Terry Stone, and Paul Knowlton)
- Other than the Portico Orientation course, the most popular course is “Safe Sanctuaries Training” with 1,169 completions!

Portico is one way the West Virginia Conference provides resources to support our mission to Discover, Develop, and Deploy passionate spiritual leaders who make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
