UM Foundation of WV Awards Grants

The United Methodist Foundation of West Virginia, Inc. awarded grants totaling $54,375 to several programs and ministries around West Virginia Annual Conference. According to Foundation president, Jeff Taylor, the Grants Committee reviews applications and awards grants to help fund innovative programs that address acute needs in communities. At its September meeting, the committee also considered grants applications from organizations offering hope and help during the pandemic.  The Foundation awarded grants for the following:

  • Buffalo United Methodist Church in Putnam County received a $5,000 grant for the food pantry and other outreach programs operated from its Community Center.
  • Burlington United Methodist Family Services received a $10,000 grant to help in its recovery from a fire that destroyed the building and equipment necessary for its Annual Apple Harvest.
  • Ebenezer Community Outreach Center received a $5,000 grant for funding of their ministry with low income children and youth in the Huntington area.
  • Friendly United Methodist Church received a $3,000 grant for the food pantry they operate in southern Tyler County.
  • Sistersville United Methodist Church received a $3,000 grant for Tabitha’s Closet, providing clothing to those in need in their community.
  • Upshur Cooperative Parish House received a $4,214 grant for technological improvements.
  • Suncrest United Methodist Church in Morgantown was approved to redirect a portion of a previously awarded grant to a new long-term addiction recovery residential ministry.

The committee also awarded grants to churches to enable them to stream worship services and other ministry events during the pandemic and beyond.

  • Central United Methodist Church in Fairmont received a $2,500 grant to upgrade live streaming capabilities.
  • Cross Roads United Methodist Church of Moatsville received a $4,161 grant to install internet in the church and upgrade technological tools for ministry.
  • Hoyes United Methodist Church in Garrett County, Maryland received a $3,500 grant to upgrade streaming capabilities.
  • McHenry United Methodist Church in Garrett County, Maryland received a $3,000 grant to upgrade streaming capabilities
  • North View United Methodist Church in Clarksburg received a $3,000 grant to update technology equipment.
  • St. Luke United Methodist Church in Craigsville received a $5,000 grant for portable sound equipment.
  • Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Mineral Wells received a $3,000 grant to improve streaming capabilities
