Warwood UMC Collects for Undie Sunday at Pet Blessing

What happens when you combine Undie Sunday with The Blessing of Pets?

Warwood UMC decided to test those waters on Saturday, October 10.   On October 4, a group of members decided to combine their drive-by donations for undies with a Blessings of the Pets Day.

Missions struggle to provide those in need with undergarments. One way the Methodist church tries to help is by having Undie Sunday, a day to donate undergarments to missions. Undie Sunday raises awareness of a simple need that most of us take for granted.

Undergarments provide more than comfort. They provide dignity and a feeling that people care enough to remember that there are needs that can’t be seen, but are still important.

Dian Nickerson said, “Pets, good fellowship (socially distanced, of course), and mission work – I can’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday!”

Reverend Bart Thompson of Warwood UMC said that the two drive-by collections, plus the Pet Blessing Day, brought in for Undie Sunday:

  • socks: 232 pairs;
  • girls’ undies: 74 pairs;
  • women’s undies: 108 pairs;
  • men’s undies: 64 pairs;
  • men’s t- shirts: 3;
  • boys’ undies: 48 pairs; and
  • diapers: 203.

Total of all collected: 732 items!

Creative, productive and fun!
