New Updates at Spring Heights Camp

By WV UMC Admin

The Disaster Response Ministry Team partnered with Volunteers in Mission to complete three days of work at Spring Heights Camp and Retreat Center.

The team of 12 painted several rooms at the Director’s residence, cleared out stored items and repaired electrical issues. In the dining hall, the crew repaired a roof damaged by previous storms and stripped the concrete dining room floor, prepping it to be recoated. Carpet was removed from all rooms at the Camp office and a number of items were removed for storage elsewhere or recycled.

The workers were all Early Response Team (ERT) trained and this is the first of many efforts to enlist these persons to do work at United Methodist sites such as Spring Heights, in order to build community and enhance our work skills.

The West Virginia Conference has 63 ERT’s trained to prepare for disasters. Last year alone, these teams along with other volunteers worked in Florida, Tennessee, the West Virginia. Watch for additional training dates as we continue to build our team in order to assist persons affected by disasters.
