Glory Sighting: Spring Heights Camp

By Shea James

Did you know that kids who attend church camp are three times as likely to be involved in church five years later than their peers who did not participate in church camp? Why? Because at camp, you learn how to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.  You learn to pray, read scripture, and notice God in the ordinary moments of daily life each time summer staff ask campers, “where did you see God in ________ (activity, craft, hike, or campfire).”

This summer, Spring Heights Camp and Retreat Center celebrated having campers on property. We learned the importance of what’s in a name through five weeks of camp and welcomed volunteers each week of camp too!  What’s camp like at Spring Heights? Rev. Michael Burge (volunteer) said, “Being at camp was a spiritual retreat for me, as much –maybe more than –for the kids. I saw kids building friendships and talking about faith in a powerful way.”

“Spring Heights is like home to me. I always feel so much closer to God when I am here.”

“Spring Heights is a place that I look forward to going to every year, this is a place where I feel the most comfortable to grow with God and be myself.”
