Congregations Encouraged to Engage in Partnerships with the Local School

By John Langenstein

(Summarized from Conference Workbook p. 139)

The Congregations Engaging in Partnerships with their Local Schools resolution seeks to encourage every local church to form lasting relationships with their local schools.

This resolution builds upon the work of the Northern District in the past year to establish Church-School partnerships following the pattern of The Mission-Minded Guide to Church and School Partnerships by Jake McGlothin.

The resolution sets forth many reasons why these partnerships benefit the communities we serve, pulling from both scripture and demographic data.

The resolution does not mandate the action of any church, but would reflect a willingness by the West Virginia Conference to engage with this kind of ministry as widely as possible.

The Board of Global Ministries will be offering a Cooperative Community Development workshop on Church and School Collaboratives Saturday, September 9th at Life UMC in Fairmont. For more information on what this kind of partnership can look like, read our article on the topic by following this link.

Books and small group studies for Church-School partnerships, written by Jake McGlothin, will be given away during the Global Ministries gathering in the oval during the lunch break on Friday.
