WVUMC Responds to Flooding

By WVUMC News

Ice storms followed by heavy rains caused rivers to flood across much of the southern part of West Virginia. Even before the governor made a disaster declaration United Methodists were mobilized to help.

Dan and Sue Lowther, Conference Disaster Response coordinators worked tirelessly to deliver much-needed cleaning supplies from New Vision Depot. David Stilgenbauer led efforts with Volunteers in Mission to muck out basements that were flooded and local churches still reeling from two weeks of ice storms became shelters and distribution shelters.

There is still much to do.

First, pray for those who have been affected, and for those who are being called to lend assistance. If you are able to assist with cleaning up please contact David Stilgenbauer

Dan Lowther has asked local churches to assemble flood buckets, as the supply at the Depot has been depleted. For instructions to assemble a flood bucket follow this link.

If you’d like to make an individual or church financial donation to flood efforts, that would also be greatly appreciated, because financial contributions go a long way to help with flood response and recovery.

You may support our Disaster Response efforts by donating using one of the following methods:

  1. Give through your local church. The church would then send the money along with their church remittance form, earmarked for WV Flood Relief #920. Checks made payable to Conference Treasurer and mailed to PO Box 2469, Charleston, WV 25329.
  2. Give directly using this link. Any gifts given through this link will not process through the church remittance system and therefore cannot be credited to a specific church or show on their church statement.

We give thanks to those who are supporting the work of our disaster response team with their prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness! Together we are able to help our neighbors and communities on the road to recovery.
