Peace with Justice Grants Available

By Martha Hill

Did you know the United Methodist Church has celebrated Peace with Justice Sunday since the 1980s?

We celebrate Peace with Justice as witnesses to God’s demand for a faithful, just, disarmed, and secure world.  Peace with Justice Sunday is celebrated on the Sunday after Pentecost (June 7, 2020) and as one of the denominations Special Sundays, a special offering is collected.

Follow this link for worship planning, video, and social media resources to help prepare for Peace with Justice Sunday.

Funds raised on Peace with Justice Sunday are divided between the global Peace with Justice fund and the West Virginia Conference Peace with Justice fund. In the past few years, West Virginia has used these funds to support mission trips, youth attending Mission of Peace, matters regarding racial inequalities, and asylum seekers.

In the wake of COVID-19, faith communities that are feeding, clothing, and caring for persons in crisis or essential workers, are invited to apply to COVID-19 Peace with Justice (PWJ) micro-grants.

As we support one another through the COVID-19 epidemic, we have unique opportunities to respond to God’s call in Matthew 25:35 to feed, clothe, and care for persons in need/crisis.  We also have the opportunity to assist those who are working to keep us safe and healthy in these trying times.

These micro-grants are available for amounts up to $500.  Applicants will be notified of their status no later than seven days after applications are received.

To apply, fill out the form below. Only West Virginia Conference churches may apply. For additional information, please contact Martha J Hill, PWJ coordinator for the West Virginia Conference, or call 304-610-1903.
