Little Kanawha District Conference

By Pam Braden

Loretta Isaiah, District Superintendent, led worship and business at the Little Kanawha District Conference on August 28.

After more than two years of meeting virtually, the sanctuary at Mt. Pleasant UMC Mineral Wells was nearly full of gleeful Methodists.

The newly aligned district includes Calhoun, Gilmer, Jackson, Lewis, Roane, Wirt, and Wood Counties.  Isaiah said the new district looks like a duck and donned a rubber ducky hat.  She quacked everyone up with the hat and ducky dance.

Pam Braden, newly appointed District Lay Leader, opened with a Call to Worship.  The Mt. Pleasant Praise Team led the group in a medley of praise songs and provided special music.

Laity Chairperson Deborah Shaffer recognized district lay servants, lay speakers, and Certified Lay Ministers.  She installed the new Lay Ministry Team chair, Marvin Tripplett, and members of the team. We give thanks for Shaffer’s service to the district lay ministry team.

District committees and teams were elected by acclamation.

Pastor Cindy Eakle reported on the District Committee on Ministry’s work throughout the year.

The offering for the District Conference goes to the Crossroads Camp.  District Camp Coordinator Lisa Withee reported on events held at the camp and provided an update on the changes to the facilities.

The closing hymn “This Little Light of Mine” harkened back to the 70s with lighters in the air as cell phone flashlights were waved.
