United Methodist Student Day is November 29th

By WV UMC Admin

United Methodist Student Day is one of six churchwide Special Sundays with offerings of The United Methodist Church. United Methodist Student Day calls the church to support students as they prepare for life in uniting faith with knowledge. The special offering provides scholarships for qualified United Methodist applicants.

Here in the West Virginia Conference, students benefit from our United Methodist connection! In addition to scholarships offered by our West Virginia Conference and the United Methodist Foundation of West Virginia, in 2020:

  • 26 WV Conference students received scholarships through our UM General Board of Higher Education & Ministry (GBHEM).
  • Of these 26 students, 6 attended seminary and 20 were in college.
  • These students were awarded a total of $57,200 in financial aid through GBHEM scholarships. The smallest award was $800, and the largest was $16,000.

Our West Virginia Conference students benefit from your generous support of United Methodist Student Day!

Students who are members of The United Methodist Church may apply for a Fall 2021 GBHEM scholarship online between December 15, 2020 – March 24, 2021 at www.gbhem.org/scholarshipapplication.

Student loans are also available at interest rates as low as 3.75% (lower than federal educational loan rates) with a credit worthy cosigner. Sometimes the United Methodist student loan helps fill the gap in funding for the student and their parents. The UM Student Spring Loan application is open December 10 through May at www.gbhem.org/loanapplication.
