We are excited to announce a new online learning platform for our Conference: Portico.
This opportunity is provided to our pastors and laity through a partnership between the Conference and the United Methodist Foundation of West Virginia.
Even before the pandemic of 2020, clergy and laity leaders throughout our Conference have been asking for some type of online learning option. This new Learning Management System will provide asynchronous learning opportunities in the form of short courses, most of them in the 20 – 30-minute range. These on-demand courses are intended to enhance, not replace, other in-person learning.
Our learning portal is called Portico in reference to ancient places where people would gather for learning. An example of this is Solomon’s portico in John 10:23 where Jesus taught and Peter healed the lame man in Acts 3:11.
Portico will be a place where laity and clergy will be able to find a wide variety of courses in many different areas. Currently we have about 30 courses available. These will continue to grow as new courses are added almost every week. Right now there are courses available in areas such as:
- Coaching
- Communications
- Discipleship
- Leadership Development
- Strategic Ministry Planning
You and everyone in your church are encouraged to visit our Conference website (wvumc.org) and click on Portico listed at the top of the page. This will take you to a page where you can learn more and register for the learning platform. After this one-time registration, you will have access to your own personalized learning site.
