Potomac Highlands District Conference

By Cheryl George

The Potomac Highlands District gathered on Sunday, September 18, 2022, to celebrate and form the new district committees as well as to bring our Celebration of Mission Event gifts together. For some, this was a first trip to the campus of Burlington United Methodist Family Services where we gather. As we did the business of District Conference, including forming all new committees, we also had a silent auction for the Celebration of Mission Event with Cornhole Boards that were crafted and donated by residents of the Pruntytown Correctional Center. The bidding began on Facebook and ended with a final bid of $350 at the event, with Pastor Greg Hicks, serving Cacapon Charge, taking home the boards.

It was beneficial to hear from Rev. Mike Linger of the House of the Carpenter about their work and opportunities for us to recreate some of that work in our communities through the Communities and Schools programs. Rev. Cliff Schell updated us on the ministries of Tyrand Parish.

Deborah Seldomridge, District VP of United Women of Faith, updated the District on the direction of the group and invited others to come along on the journey.

Our District Disaster Team also distributed 200 flood buckets to be filled by November 4, which included information on how to get involved locally or as a New Vision Depot Ambassador. We prepare all year to be ready when we are called upon. The support of The Potomac Highlands District for our ministries and missions is phenomenal and we continue to celebrate together the work of our churches and people.
