Hunger Grants
Hunger grants are awarded each year and support food pantries and other agencies that help the hungry in our society. Funds may be used to buy food and food-related items (i.e. nutrition education, storage, hunger program development). Funds do not cover administrative costs, salaries, clothing closets, or utility payments for clients. Download the Hunger Grant Application here. Read Hunger Grant Guidelines here.
The annual deadline for Hunger Grants is February.
The Hunger Grant Fund of the West Virginia Conference of The United Methodist Church is in need of funds. We were not able to grant funds this year to needy food pantries because of lack of funds.
In West Virginia, 242,180 people are facing hunger and of them 68,310 are children, that means that in our state alone 1 in 5 children face hunger each and every day.
There are two ways to donate to the Hunger Grant Fund.
If you wish to donate with a check, please give through your local church. The church should then send the money along with their church remittance form, earmarked for “Hunger Grant #221.” Make checks payable to Conference Treasurer and mail to PO Box 2469, Charleston, WV 25329.

Virginia Higgins Grant
Virginia Higgins grant funds are designed to encourage United Methodist involvement in Health and Welfare Ministries, especially in the areas of child care, aging, health care, and people with handicapping conditions. Grants are also awarded to organizations, institutions, and programs related to the West Virginia Conference and other units of the general United Methodist Church through residential or non-residential ministries, including, but not limited to, domestic violence, health care and homelessness. Golden Cross Offering
This special offering helps support the health and welfare agencies in the Annual Conference. Golden Cross Sunday is observed in the spring, but can also be recognized on all fifth Sundays, and any Sunday in Advent.
The Mission Ministries Grant
is designed to provide churches and church ministries within the WV Annual Conference an opportunity to initiate new ministries in local communities or expand current ministries throughout the conference that will alleviate human suffering and/or seek justice especially to those who find themselves marginalized.
This grant is intentionally established to support and encourage local creativity in response to local necessity.
Revolving Grants
are available for capital improvement projects for local churches, West Virginia Conference mission projects, cooperative parishes, district camps, and the WV Conference camp via the Conference Board of Global Ministries.
