UPDATE – October 1, 2024
In response to Hurricane Helene, we have been asked by the Holston Conference UMC to focus on the Virginia area while other Conferences are responding to the other regions that were impacted.
New Vision Depot will deliver 600 cleaning buckets this Wednesday and Friday to locations in Virginia. More will follow as needed. Working with us, Elizabeth Chapel in Ronceverte is delivering 150 cases of formula and hygiene and care kits.
For now, the Holston Conference is not asking for other supplies or for volunteers. After the initial response, there will be many other needs that we will be asked to assist with. In the meantime, please donate to https://umcmission.org/advance-project/901670/ Every dollar you donate goes to direct assistance.
In April, West Virginia experienced terrible flooding and tornadoes. UMCOR supported our recovery work with a $10,000 grant. Many of you have seen the pictures and heard the stories of this work.
If you have any questions, please contact Pastor Jim McCune at disasterresponse@wvumc.org.

If you are looking for ways to donate to those impacted by Hurricane Helene across the Southeast U.S., consider donating to UMCOR (The United Methodist Committee on Relief).
UMCOR responds to natural or civil disasters of such magnitude that they overwhelm a community’s ability to recover on its own. Through UMCOR, United Methodists extend loving care to people within the United States. When disaster strikes, it is local churches that provide the first response to their communities. This basic understanding—that disaster response is local—forms the foundation for UMCOR’s US disaster training and response. When responding to a disaster in the United States, UMCOR provides training, financial assistance, expertise, community collaboration to churches and partners making them more resilient to disasters.
