New Vision Depot Hosting June Work Days

By WV UMC Admin

You are invited to join us on June 14th and/or 15th at the New Vision Depot in Beaver, WV.

The Depot is a missional warehouse and vital link in the West Virginia Conference Disaster Response Ministry.

Over these two days, you can choose to commute or stay overnight. There will be opportunities to work as well as train, role-play, and learn about disaster response ministry.

The physical address is: 1224 Airport Road, Beaver, WV.

June 14th, Friday — Work/Learn Day 1 — Lunch Provided

June 15th, Saturday — Work/Learn Day 2 — Lunch Provided

If you plan to commute, hours are roughly 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM. These hours are flexible.

WORK: Tasks are available for all skill levels. You can stay in one room and verify flood buckets, or you can patch a roof. We need folks to pull out, sort, and restock inventory in the warehouse and assembly building. There are gutters, vehicles, and trailers to clean. We will use a pressure washer as well as other power and hand tools. If you prefer to sweep a floor, clean windows, or count inventory, the Depot can use your help, too!

Please assess your physical capabilities for the tasks at hand and dress appropriately. Sturdy shoes are required (no flip-flops)!

FUN AND LEARNING: Cleaning Kit (Flood Bucket) building contest. After building your cleaning kit,  you “deliver” your bucket as a disaster response volunteer and role-play in mock disaster relief.

FOOD: Lunch will be provided Friday and Saturday. For overnighters, a light breakfast will be available.

See below for more information.

ACCOMMODATIONS: For those electing to stay overnight, the Depot has a total of 10 twin-size bunkbeds with mattresses. Cots and floorspace are available. Please bring your own bedding kit such as, sheets, air mattress, sleeping bag, and pillow. The Depot does have pillows and blankets available but, again, bring your own sheets for the bunks.

Restrooms, sleeping quarters, and a kitchen are available in the Office/Assembly building. Showers are in the Warehouse adjacent to Assembly. The Depot has towels and washcloths, but you may bring your own of course. Please provide personal toiletry items.

MORE ON FOOD: Additionally, the Depot will have light breakfast foods such as cereal and toast available for overnighting. A Tudor’s Biscuit World restaurant is within walking distance of the Depot. Dinner is on your own and there are several restaurants in Beaver and many restaurants in nearby Beckley. Alternatively, you can prepare a meal onsite. The Depot has a fully equipped kitchen.

REGISTRATION REQUIRED: Please register by Monday, June 3rd, for one or both days by emailing Scott Mayberry at You can also call or text Scott at (304) 716-1465 to register and for information. We need an accurate count for lunch and work materials, so please register as early as you can.

See you in June…
