When the pastors of Christ Presbyterian and Pea Ridge Baptist approached Rev. Shannon Blosser, pastor of Pea Ridge UMC, about the possibility of doing an ecumenical Trunk or Treat together, he jumped at it with the full support of the church. All three pastors, along with volunteers from their churches, met regularly as a planning team to pull off a great evening.
While originally they received permission to host the Trunk or Treat in the large parking lot of a nearby medical facility, rain meant they relocated to the fellowship hall at Pea Ridge UMC. Despite the weather, the Trunk or Treat, held on Sunday, October 29, was a huge success and drew between 400 and 500 attendees. The line to enter the fellowship hall stretched around the building and doubled back on itself.
“This was a great way to share an outreach with the community and build relationship with members of our neighboring churches. The outreach team is already cultivating thoughts of what more we could do together,” Rev. Blosser said. “This was three churches with different theological perspectives, but a shared common goal of loving God and loving people. That is what we should all be about.”
