Local Church Communications Summit

By WVUMC News

West Virginia Conference local church communicators and those interested in becoming better communicators are invited to participate in a Zoom webinar, Monday, Nov. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m.

The “Re-Connect” Local Church Communications Summit is hosted by the Communications team of the West Virginia Conference of The United Methodist Church and is geared toward sharing information about local church (and agency) marketing and social media, online worship, websites, and writing for those who are paid as well as volunteers!

“Whether you are part of a team, or running solo, this advent gathering is time for you to be with others who ‘get’ what you’re doing,” Communications Director Rev. Deborah Coble said.

The webinar will begin with a greeting and opening prayer followed by a show-and-tell of “cool tools.”

“We’ll talk about what’s working and what’s new,” Coble said, explaining that communications skills and staying on top of advances in technology and equipment are vital to modern day worship as well as marketing. Everything from social media to live-streaming and sound and picture quality has become an important part of church life since the pandemic prompted permanent changes to how we do and experience church.

Breakout rooms will follow the “cool tools” session. Participants will spend 15 minutes in each of the four communications categories — church marketing and social media, online worship, websites, and writing. Members of the WVUMC Communications Team will host the breakout rooms, sharing knowledge and exploring the concerns of participants to help plan future events. All experience levels are welcome.

After the breakout sessions, webinar participants will regroup for a wrap-up and door prizes, which will include some of the “cool tools” mentioned earlier in the evening.
