United Methodist Volunteers In Mission (UMVIM) is a grassroots movement within The United Methodist Church that provides a way for lay and clergy Christians to use their skills and talents in service at home and around the world on short term mission assignments at their own expense.

The work includes construction of mission facilities, teaching, witnessing, conducting medical clinics, conducting Bible study or Bible School for children, and serving in disaster relief efforts around the world.

West Virginia Volunteers in Mission (WVVIM)

The mission of Volunteers in Mission is to provide opportunities for persons to experience Christ is a setting outside their norm while building relationships.

This can be done in many ways and places. It will always require disciples of Jesus Christ who are willing to allow God to deploy them where they are needed. The heart of missions is being willing to go where God is calling you knowing that God is already present.

Each short-term mission requires a  different amount of time and distance from home. This may include working here in West Virginia, somewhere in the United States, or at a location around the world.

Another great thing about short-term missions is there is something for everyone to do. Short-term mission experiences empower you in your local ministry to seek out how you can connect with your neighbor and community.

The goal for WV VIM includes organizing a minimum of five opportunities to participate in short-term missions each year. This will include opportunities within West Virginia, the United States, and around the world.

It is our goal to include as many of YOU as possible to engage in both the physical journey and — more importantly — for you to join the spiritual journey with VIM.

We understand that not everyone is able to participate by doing the short-term missions. There are other ways in which you can participate with VIM.

Financial Support: All persons who deploy with VIM on a short-term mission go as a representative of their local church. Each is required to find the financial resources to fund their trip.

Prayer: There is no mission that is successful without prayer both before and during the short-term mission event.

I ask that you prayerfully consider what and how God would lead YOU to connect with VIM. For more information, contact David Stilgenbaur, West Virginia Conference VIM Coordinator
