Registration deadline extended for Annual Gathering, Circuit Rider

The registration deadline for both the West Virginia United Methodist Men’s Annual Gathering and Circuit Rider 32 has been extended to Midnight Aug. 25th.

“The original deadline was today, Friday, Aug. 19,” said George Hohmann, president of the West Virginia United Methodist Men. The men sponsor both events, which will be Sept. 9-11 at West Virginia University’s Jackson’s Mill, near Weston.

“Extending the deadline will provide men and Scout units that have not yet registered an opportunity to do so,” Hohmann said. “Several Scout units have started the registration process but haven’t finished. The extended deadline gives them more time to do so.”

Hohmann noted that Circuit Rider pre-registration wasn’t required in the past. Not only is it mandatory this year, it must be done online at https://scoutingevent.com/615-CircuitRider32.

“We’re asking both Methodist men and Scouters to adopt these new behaviors so organizers can better plan the events and the Jackson’s Mill staff can order the proper amount of food,” Hohmann said. The Methodist Men will provide a free dinner to all Scouts and Scout leaders on Saturday evening, Sept. 10, at Jackson’s Mill’s Mt. Vernon Dining Hall.

Offerings at Annual Gathering, worship service to aid disaster victims

Offerings taken up during the West Virginia United Methodist Men’s Annual Gathering and the worship service on Sunday, Sept. 10, at WVU Jackson’s Mill will benefit disaster victims.

In accordance with the wishes of United Methodist West Virginia Area Bishop Sandra Steiner Ball, the offering on Sunday morning Sept. 11 during the worship service at Jackson’s Mill will go to the West Virginia Conference Disaster relief fund.

The worship service is attended by many of the United Methodist Men who attend the men’s Annual Gathering and many of the Scouts and Scout leaders who attend Circuit Rider.

Bishop Steiner Ball explained that the West Virginia United Methodist Conference has sent and is sending funds to Kentucky for disaster relief out of the West Virginia Conference disaster relief fund.

The West Virginia fund is maintained for disaster use inside and outside of the West Virginia Conference for needs that are not covered by the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), the church’s global humanitarian aid and development organization.

“Right now, due to giving out of the West Virginia fund for both Kentucky and Tennessee, the West Virginia fund has been depleted from the level we try to maintain for emergencies and needs that are not covered by UMCOR,” the bishop said.

The West Virginia United Methodist Men’s Executive Committee has directed the offering collected Friday evening Sept. 9 during the Men’s Annual Gathering at Jackson’s Mill to go to Kentucky flood relief.

There will be two offerings during the Annual Gathering’s Saturday morning program: An offering will be collected for Kentucky flood relief. Also, a love offering will be collected as appreciation for the musician who will play requested music during the Friday evening and Saturday morning programs.
