“Your stories of help and hope are everywhere”

“You are leading our connectional system in your response to the opioid epidemic,” so proclaims the Rev. Barry Steiner Ball in his address to the members of the WV Annual Conference’s Saturday afternoon Business Session.

By “mixing your stories with our WV Conference’s communications team and the United Methodist News Service, your stories are everywhere,” Ball continued, “not only throughout the US, but from other countries,” as he recently received correspondence from Ethiopia.

Steiner Ball, a retired agent of the Drug Enforcement Administration, heads the initiative of the West Virginia Conference to help churches deal with the opioid crisis and has focused his ministry over the past several years on how churches can offer hope to those suffering from addiction and also on how to offer a concrete response to the crisis.

Local churches and church leaders are invited to ‘save the date’ for the September 4, 2019 Substance Abuse Summit and the Day of Hope, on September 15, 2019. Both are co-sponsored by the West Virginia Council of Churches.

Joe Kenason, Dean of the Cabinet, presented Barry Steiner Ball with a WV Wesleyan ball cap as he was introduced to the 2019 WV UMC Annual Conference.
