Prayer buddies at Elizabeth UMC

More than 60 adults and children form a prayer circle after coming together for a dinner celebrating Elizabeth Memorial UMC’s Prayer Buddy ministry.

“The powerful promise of God’s presence when we pray with others is too great a gift to ignore.”  (Stormie Omartian, The Power of a Praying Grandparent)

At the beginning of the school year, Elizabeth Memorial UMC in Charleston, WV (Midland South District), had a vision of pairing every child – newborn to age 18 – with an adult Prayer Buddy. Adults willing to serve in this ministry rapidly stepped forward and within a couple weeks every young person had an adult praying for them.

On March 17, a dinner was held to celebrate how lucky our congregation is to have such caring adults willing to pray over our children, many of whom were not familiar to one another prior to the program, both in celebration and need.

More than 60 adults and children came together to fellowship and spend time together enjoying games and a dinner of mac’n’cheese, applesauce and brownies! Every person walked away even closer to their Prayer Buddy and looking forward to continuing to share in one another’s spiritual journey.
