Handle With Care Conference: Ministering with drug-endangered children

By Barry Steiner Ball

On October 17-19 people from a multitude of disciplines will be gathering in Charleston for the 2018 Handle With Care Conference. This is a time for anyone who is concerned about, works with or is discerning a call to minister with drug endangered children to gather, be inspired, learn and share ideas.

Each day will have a nationally known speaker for a plenary session and then breakout sessions that cover a whole host of topics. Some of the breakout sessions are very specific to certain professions others are for broad audiences all are opportunities to broaden our understanding of the lives of drug endangered children and the ways to support them.

While the personal knowledge that will be gained is important, the most important activity will be the relationships developed from a multitude of disciplines. This conference draws judges, prosecutors, Child Protective Custody workers, Social Workers, physicians, nurses, police, mental health professionals, teachers, CASA’s, Foster Parents and faith community members. It is events like this that can start ministries in our churches by highlighting a need, partnering with others and stepping out in faith.

This is a great opportunity for clergy and laity alike.

Clergy may claim the hours in attendance for Continuing Education Units.
